Gasket paste
Type
Graphite, mica, PTFE and inorganic materials are the main components of the gasket paste,
and the following are made of paste with thickening agents:
VALQUA No. | Product Name | Main components
(SEALP) | Seal Paste | Inorganic filler
(PSVO) | NEW VALFLON Paste | PTFE
(PS5) | Gasket Paste | (No.5) | Graphite |
(No.5M) | Mica | ||
(PS6) | Gasket Paste | (No.6) | Graphite |
(No.6M) | Mica |
Refer to 1.1.4 (2) in the page for gasket paste for the details and usage of the products.
Effects
Gasket paste has the following effects from being applied in thin coats evenly on both surfaces of
the gasket and on the cut surface of the gasket inner diameter.
① Gasket can be easily removed from a flange to prevent sticking to it under high temperature, and for replacement.
②The improvement of sealability: A badly damaged or warped flange and insufficient gasket stress are not
necessarilyacceptable by applying a gasket paste. However, when a seal is somewhat insufficient due to dents and dings of
flange face, insufficient gasket stress and incorrect surface roughness, it is effective on the seal improvement to apply a gasket
paste on the gasket. Because the gasket paste can fill a little gap between the surface of the gasket and theflange face.
Especially, it is very effective to apply a gasket paste for a gas seal by using metallic flat gasket and semi-metallic gasket
(metal-jacketed gasket).
Selection and usage of gasket paste
Gasket paste is selected and used based on the working conditions (fluids, temperature), but is used
differently depending on the type of gasket. Types of gasket and compatible gasket paste are in the following table.

Caution
① Paste application is prohibited in some cases depending on operating conditions. Verify in advance.
② For oxygen
NEWVALFLON Paste (temperature: 100 ℃ or below) is used. Other gasket paste (flammable) cannot be used.
③ Abnormal deformation or damage may occur due to excessive tightening or uneven tightening after applying a gasket paste on a gasket and resulting in a slippery flange face. Special attention is needed for soft gaskets (Synthetic rubber sheet gasket, compressed fiber sheet gasket and PTFE envelope gasket) and spiral wound gasket with an outer ring.
④ Contamination of fluids
Do not use gasket paste where food is treated or where contamination of fluid is strictly prohibited.
⑤ SEALPASTE shall be used for anti-corrosion type compressed fiber sheet. Use of other gasket paste(No. 5, No. 5M, No. 6, No. 6M) may hinder anticorrosive effect.
