(b) Materials of sealing face

(c) Cooling methods
The sealing face of a mechanical seal produces a sliding heat, and the temperature of the shaft sealing portion increases due to the agitating heat. For this reason, take care not to let the sealing face be subject to dry friction by effectively diffusing the generated heat to prevent its accumulation and also by forcefully cooling the fluid to be sealed to keep its temperature to a certain extent when it is high. The commonly used cooling methods include direct cooling such as flushing and quenching and indirect cooling using a jacket, which should be used either singly or in combination according to the service conditions.

(d) Classifications of cooling methods

(e) Selection of heat exchanger (cooler)
The heat exchanger to be installed to the flushing circuit must be capable of calculating heat transfer area based on the temperature and fluid type.
