(5) Handling instructions

(a) Notice for handling
(i) Remove sand, scales, etc. from inside the piping and equipment to install the mechanical seal to.
(ii) For the purpose of insertion, “round” or taper the end, stepped, key-way portions, etc., of the shaft (or sleeve), apply a thin film of oil to the shaft packing and the shaft to facilitate sliding, and then insert the mechanical seal while taking care to avoid the adhesion of sand, dust, etc.
(iii) The sliding face may not be damaged. For a mechanical seal made of carbon or ceramics, take care not to let its edges damage the sliding face as they are likely to do so.
(iv) Take caution not to apply any loads (shaft, stuffing box, etc.) to the sealing face except the spring force of the mechanical seal.
(v) The gland cover should be free from uneven tightening.
(b) Trial operation
(i) When assembling is complete, turn the shaft with a hand and see if it is not subject to unusual loads.
(ii) Conduct a pressure resistance test in a static condition and check for leakage.
(c) Notice for storage
(i) The preferred place for storage is a cool, dark, and less humid place not subject to high temperatures.
(ii) Store in shipment state.
